The transition to Grade 9 can be challenging, especially in math. This student came to Lighthouse Tutoring with a failing grade in Grade 9 math and 3/4 of the semester remaining. After three months of personalized, regular tutoring sessions, the student improved their grade to 60%—a significant increase from what they had anticipated!

A year ago, this student began receiving reading support from Lighthouse as they were entering Grade 4. They struggled to stay engaged in a loud, busy classroom and had fallen behind in reading by several grade levels. Through one-on-one tutoring focused on a "back to basics" approach for phonics and decoding, the student is now reading at grade level as they move into Grade 5.

This student began tutoring with Lighthouse in Grade 2 after experiencing learning challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which left them several grade levels behind in reading. Initially, they struggled with letter sounds and reading basic CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. After a year of sessions tailored to their specific needs, the student can now read all letter sounds, most CVC words, and simple sentences.
